Former Minister criticizes funding cuts

Former Minister David Emerson, in a wide-ranging interview with the Vancouver Sun, was widely critical of the current government and the last one, suggesting that Canada has a diminished global presence, and that Prime Ministers have been dominated by “tiny” groups of advisors, to the detriment of the country. Emerson, an economist, former BC Deputy Finance Minister, and Minister of Trade and Foreign Affairs in the Harper government, also criticized cuts to Canadian research funding agencies: “Now is the time when you’ve really got to keep pushing resources into research and our educational institutions.
