Shovel-ready or is it Election-readying projects?
A few hours before the BC provincial election was officially launched, the results of the joint federal-provincial Knowledge Infrastructure Program in BC were announced (29 projects for $441 million). The same scenario unfolded yesterday in Novia Scotia.
Interestingly, these are essentially the only two provinces where a deal has been completed between both levels of government. Sure there is some announcement in Alberta, but so far it only involves 3 projects at U. of Alberta.
This should not be surprising, because 2 governments agreeing on 20-30 large projects at once is not obvious at all, unless there is some … electoral urgency. It will be interesting to see how fast agreements can be reached in non election-ready provinces.
