$1-bn Clean Energy Fund announcement
The Minister of Natural Resources Lisa Raitt yesterday described some details of the previously announced $1-billion Clean Energy Fund, which are outlined in a government news release ( ed note. the release headline refers to the ”Harper Government” – seems unsettling to me that the government of Canada is now identifying itself officially and explicitly with the leader). The Fund will include a $150-million research component which will: “fund initiatives ranging from basic research to pre-demonstration pilot projects of technologies ranging from next generation renewable and cleaner energy systems to new technologies to address environmental challenges in the oil sands such as water use and tailings”. The remaining $850-million is for technology development and demonstration – $650-million for large-scale carbon capture and storage projects and $200-million for small-scale renewable energy projects.
Details, including a call for proposals, can be found at the Natural Resources website.
